Governance with SAP MDG

SAP Master Data Governance (SAP MDG) is one of the core solution of the SAP Enterprise Information Management offerings. With SAP MDG you are able to centrally govern your master data based on a collaborative workflow mechanism that seamlessly integrates business rules and subject matter domain expertise. Kentivo delivers SAP MDG core features together with enhancements tailored to the business requirements. This will ensure that our client’s master data will be consistent and accurate across the enterprise to better perform key activities such as financial consolidation, new product introduction or supplier on-boarding.

SAP MDG core features:

SAP Master Data Governance comes with standard workflow scenarios to cover typical client processes and organizational requirements. More complex process configurations can be developed within the SAP standard workflow development framework.

Additional standard features:

  • The parallel workflow, to trigger more than one change request at a time for the same material
  • The distributed workflow, which branches off to specialists (e.g. finance and sales specialist) after the initial processing of central data
  • Every workflow step comes with a bunch of configuration possibilities like step specific, role based user interface, business rules, data requirements etc.

With the latest feature pack of SAP Master Data Governance 7.0, SAP follows up on its mobile strategy. The Lean User Interfaces feature enables end-users to initiate data requests on their mobile devices. Especially for sales representatives a new dimension of producing data “on the road” is available.

Rapid Deployment / Out of the Box Content

SAP MDG comes with a full set of content, such as data models for material, supplier, customer and finance objects. The content also includes ready-to-be-used User Interfaces, validations and workflows. In addition, the replication and integration part is delivered in the standard as well. This means that you do not have to build all these things during the implementation project if they plan to integrate SAP Master Data Governance to a SAP centric landscape. If you have to extend or modify the standard content, Kentivo can help with their high quality onshore delivery team. This will be a real accelerator for the SAP Master Data Governance initiatives as it is always better to start with basic content then to start from scratch.

Business Rules

One of the biggest strength of SAP Master Data Governance is to convert and integrate data policies and standards into technology. With the SAP Master Data Governance business rule framework (BRF+) it is possible to set up, check and derivation rules. This improvement to data accuracy, data completeness, data consistency will increase the overall data quality of your organization. Kentivo can help you to identify, document and implement business rules to achieve your strategic targets.

Data Quality Functionality

Because SAP Master Data Governance is running on SAP`s ABAP stack on top of SAP ERP, the inherent Data Dictionary is used also in the data model. This means that the validations (such as field length and data types) are also available in SAP Master Data Governance. Additional validations like postal code length etc. are available out of the box as well. In addition, SAP Master Data Governance also provides integration to external services for validations.

In SAP MDG you can analyze the processing times and statuses of your Change Requests (CR). This involves monitoring business activities, tracking compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLA) and optimizing processes, so you can turn insight into action.

For Change Requests, you can identify:

  • Total CRs
  • Open CRs
  • Finally approved CRs
  • Long running CRs
  • Process time exceeded
  • Overdue CRs

Security is key in modern MDM solutions and organizations. With SAP Master Data Governance you always know who, when and what has been changed in your master data repository. Traceable, auditable and easy to identify in the user interface or application log.
